Sally Gearhart (1931-2021) was a pioneering Lesbian activist and feminist leader. As professor of Speech, Theater and Women Studies at San Francisco State University, Gearhart helped to launch the first women and gender studies program in the country In 1978 Gearhart worked to defeat the Briggs initiative which would have banned Gays and Lesbians from working in public school. Gearhart worked closely with Harvey Milk to combat homophobia and elect him Mayor of San Francisco. Her activism was lifelong and extended to ecofeminism. This is a new film and we are delighted to be joined by director Deborah Craig for Q/A.
