The more things change, the more they stay the same. Family Free Day is still every third Saturday at the museum with story time brought to you by a partnership with First 5 Vallejo, Alibi Bookshop, and Angels with Heart. Come take advantage of these free days and explore your hometown museum.
Our gift shop continues to be the best spot to find an eclectic array of gift items. Sees’ Candies are now a mainstay item, books with a focus on Vallejo history and authors, the best selection of Vallejo themed postcards anywhere in the city, fun apparel, and more. Museum members still receive 10% off all museum items (only exclusion is Sees’ Candies).
Genealogy Society of Vallejo – Benicia still holds their monthly meeting, which is open to the public, every first Thursday of the month and keep their research library on our second floor. Hours are every Tuesday and second Thursday 1:30p- 3:30p This summer the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum is once again participating in the Blue Star Museums program, a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer FREE ADMISSION to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Active duty military include Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and active duty National Guard and active duty Reserve members. Leadership support for the program has been provided by MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families.

January/February
January brought major changes with adding 4 new directors to our board, a new executive committee, Sharon McGriff Payne as resident historian, and a website revamp we’ve all been waiting for! February was filled with events that included the Vallejo Project holding their community event Diverse Voices A Panel On Identity, David Gonzalez, Jazz at the Valmuse!, Benicia Chamber Players Slavic Rhapsodies, On The Fringe VAPA performed Art by Yasmina Reza, the San Francisco Puppet Guild held their “Puppetathelon”, and our Living History Speaker Series featured former board president Liat Meitzenheimer and current resident historian Sharon McGriff leading the discussion: Black History • Our History • Vallejo History ON THE WALLS OF THE HALL: Black History A Conscience Experience Curated by Asakari Sowonde , with pop up exhibit from the private collection of Verdell Chriss’.

March we celebrated Women’s History Month with our Living History Speaker Series featuring a panel of 6 Vallejo change makers, moderated by our board president Maria Stats. Leadership Vallejo Youth attended a discussion on diversity lead by Marisela Barbosa-Cortez. Our annual Trivia Night saw new friends but the same winners! We also announced our annual Gala Auction will be Friday, September 6 celebrating our 50th Anniversary.

April the museum had resident company On The Fringe present the Tony Award winning musical Fun Home. Annual Volunteer Appreciation Lunch. Our very own Paul Goodrum worked diligently to relaunch our field trip program and has had great success with our soft launch of the program this spring. May was all sunshine and flowers at the museum with Angels with Heart hosting a Mother’s Day Tea for the community, and our 21st Annual Garden Tour was a success with new friends and 9 of the most beautiful spots of Earth in Vallejo. Coming in June
June is filled with Pride at the Museum. June 1st at 10am we will raise the Pride flag. We will also have On The Fringe Youth performing James and the Giant Peach Jr. on June 1 at 2pm and 7pm. June 7 at 6pm Pulse Nightclub Annual Vigil will be held. Pride Night at The Museum June 8 at 7pm. June 19th the Museum will commemorate Juneteenth with a flag raising.
